NOOK CHALLENGE – MARCH:

MARCH WRITING CHALLENGE IDEA FROM MRS. FRECH

‘Tis the season of those funny leprechauns!!! So…let’s have some fun in the spirit of their antics.

In my experience teaching creative writing, conveying humor is quite difficult, so I CHALLENGE YOU TO MUSTER SOME LAUGHS WITH YOUR LIMERICKS. ☘️

Limericks are a fixed poetry form of five lines with the rhyming scheme of AABBA.

Limericks are also traditionally humorous or irreverent (if you can get even a little chuckle from the reader, you’ve done it!!!).

Disclaimer: The Writers’ Nook is hosted by PFHS, so be aware that your limericks must remain on the gentler side of the PG-13 zone. Thank you!!

Here are a couple samples to get you going (rhyme scheme marked in first poem for your reference):

“How Awkward When Playing with Glue”
By Constance Levy

How awkward when playing with glue,  (A)
To suddenly find out that you                 (A)
Have stuck nice and tight                   (B)
Your left hand to your right                 (B)
In a permanent how-do-you-do!             (A)

“A Limerick on Limericks (IYKYK)”
By Mrs. Frech

There once was a challenge to rhyme,
It was to write a limerick of five lines,
You mixed up your A’s with your B’s,
       You even threw in some C’s;
Maybe stick with Haikus for next time.

Cabin Fever has been afflicting all of us, and some laughter may be just the medicine we need, so I hope you accept this March Challenge.
