Young Educators’ Society to invite guest speaker – John Carroll’s clinical experience coordinator – to talk about Education as a career path and next steps

Jessica Engstrom, Clinical Experience Coordinator for the Academic & Graduate Education program at John Carroll University, will be Y.E.S. (Young Educators’ Society)’s first official guest speaker, November 17th in room 146. She will be presenting to Padua’s inaugural members about the future of education, and next steps in pursuit of that career path. Topics should include courses you’ll take as a freshman, sophomore, junior and senior at most education programs, as well as student teaching experiences, observations, and a Q&A. If you want to attend, email Ms. Cifani or Mrs. Simna.

Students in Y.E.S. have already hosted their first in a series of “Teacher Lunch Breaks” — lunch time chats with members of Padua’s own faculty last Thursday, October 30th. Mrs. Schepis, Y.E.S.’s guest for 7th lunch praised her group of over a dozen future educators for their great questions and enthusiasm for the profession. “It’s so exciting to see so many young people still interested in education as a career.” Mr. DiRocco led a 5th period lunch chat where he discussed the admin side of education, and Dr. Hopkins-Harrington gave Y.E.S. a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at teaching at the college level.

The next set of “Teacher Lunch Breaks” will occur on the Friday before Padua leaves for Thanksgiving break with the following guests and topics:

5th-Mrs. Calcut “What We Wish We Knew”
7th-Mr. Eiben “Day in The Life”
9th-Mrs. Simna “Many Paths of Education – from Marketing to Teaching, back to Marketing!”
