Padua’s own Alumni, Olivia Shackleton ‘16, joins Multimedia Journalism class to give insight on working for Fox News Sunday in Washington D.C.

This spring, Padua’s very own alumni, Olivia Shackleton ‘16 sat down with Mrs. Simna and her Multimedia Journalism class to get an inside scoop on what it’s like to work with real life news stories.

Shackleton says working for Fox News Sunday out of Washington D.C hasn’t been easy but she wouldn’t trade it for the world. Each show which her studio produces features multiple segments pieced together to create one hour long show, featured every Sunday on fox news.

It is not easy to plan and produce a show, and Shackleton adds that Fox News Live – where she was previously – is very different from Fox News Sunday. “Fox News Live is four hours long opposed to the one hour Fox News Sunday is,” says Shackleton. But with Fox News Live she did a lot more of the booking, scheduling the guests, and research…TONS of research. The role she is in now is more of a creative role: she will pitch one specialized thing and, if approved, the camera crew and producers will go and shoot b-roll. Shackleton is more in charge of the script writing and the final products.

“I think as you get into the industry you kind of get adjusted to knowing the expectations,” she adds. Shackleton says it was not easy at first, learning how to “write for the news,” but she enjoys what she does for a living.

Since being at Padua, Shackleton has earned her degrees at John Carroll University for her major in political science and communication. Working with the media has boosted her confidence more than she knows as she is ready to tackle any project.

Shackleton’s goal at the end of the day is to continue being in the media industry and producing more segments that originate from her ideas.
