Sophomore Class Officers Nathan Carlson and Jacob Obloj help lead this year’s Freshman Retreat – working with R.A.C.E. to foster respect and inclusivity in Padua’s community. According to Evans, he claims that as a bruin community we should go the extra mile to recognize that ALL people are made within the image and likeness of God. He also says that we are all worthy of dignity and respect.

The goal of R.A.C.E.’s newsworthy bulletin is to “increase the student body’s understanding of the great contributions by many African-Americans over the past centuries,” Evans states. At Padua, the community’s goal is to connect with God, making it feel like a safe environment. Being a part of the R.A.C.E club includes loving God, uniting as one under God, and promoting God within our faith. To do so, the R.A.C.E club strives to focus on the concepts of diversity and ending racism around the world.

Although the club faces challenges along the way, Evans claims as a team they can work together to conquer anything that is thrown at them. “Our hope is that one day, ALL bruins will celebrate the accomplishments of all people, of all identities, ethnicities, and cultures” as Evans concludes during his interview. As February comes to an end, Evans wraps up his statement by encouraging the Padua community to be a part of the R.A.CE. club and join in on making a difference not just within Padua, but outside of Padua’s doors too.
