Dune: Part Two – Movies with Matteo

“Dune: Part Two is nearly perfect from beginning to end, and that is not an exaggeration!”
2024 had many great films. From the excellently done musical numbers and set design seen in Wicked, to the almost scarily realistic Civil War, to excellent chemistry between Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool and Wolverine, there was a wide variety of quality to watch. However, my personal favorite movie this year was the epic and beautiful Dune: Part Two.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Dune: Part Two is an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s groundbreaking, timeless sci-fi classic. 2021’s Dune was a good, albeit slow, film that did an excellent job of introducing the audience to the world of Arrakis, the Fremen, the conflict of House Atreides and House Harkonnen, and, of course, the all important resource known as Spice. Dune does an excellent job of laying the groundwork for Dune: Part Two.
The film follows Paul Atreides and his mother, Lady Jessica, as they join the Fremen forces following the aftermath of Dune. Paul Atreides is played by Timothée Chalamet, who, in my opinion, is one of the most talented young actors working in Hollywood. From early roles in Interstellar, to playing the beloved Willy Wonka, to even playing BOB DYLAN in the upcoming A Complete Unknown, he has a wide range, and this range is on full display in the film. He is naive, powerful, menacing, you name it. His supporting cast is also off the charts
The incredibly talented cast includes the likes of Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Austin Butler (Elvis), Zendaya (Spiderman: No Way Home), Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men), Javier Bardem (also No Country for Old Men), and Florence Pugh (Oppenheimer). All of the performances are amazing, but my favorite was Javier Bardem. He played the character of Stilgar, who is easily the funniest character in the movie. It seemed like every time he spoke, the audience erupted into laughter.
Easily one of the best parts of this movie is the cinematography. It is absolutely gorgeous. The colors, the sets, and the visual effects give this film such a distinct visual style. Denis Villeneuve is no stranger to beautiful-looking movies. His 2017 film, Blade Runner: 2049, is the most breathtakingly beautiful movie I’ve ever seen.
Dune: Part Two is nearly perfect from beginning to end, and that is not an exaggeration. I still think about a lot of the scenes from this movie, and I saw it nearly 9 months ago. Everything is cranked up to 11 at any given moment. From the incredible score to the beautiful set design, there is not a second from this movie that is wasted. This film is my favorite film of the year, and possibly my favorite from the 2020’s so far. If you are a big sci-fi fan, this film is an absolute must!
